Our lives are a collection of moments. Some utterly painful and full of yesterday’s hurts. Some beautifully hopeful and full of tomorrow’s promises.
I’ve had many memories in my lifetime, moments that changed me, challenged me. Moments that scared me and engulfed me. However, the biggest ones—the most heartbreaking and breathtaking one—all included him.
I was ten years old when I lost my voice. A piece of me was stolen away, and the only person who could truly hear my silence was Brooks Griffin. He was the light during my dark days, the promise of tomorrow, until tragedy found him. Tragedy that eventually drowned him in a sea of memories.
This is the story of a boy and girl who loved each other, but didn’t themselves. A story of life and death. Of love and broken promises.
The Silent Waters is an emotional, beautifully written story by Brittainy C. Cherry. And I loved everything about it!
Seven year old Maggie’s world changes after her father meets and marries Katie. She not only gains a mother, but now she has step-siblings and a beautiful home. She also meets her brother’s friend, Brooks—whom she is instantly smitten with. He’s THE one for her. However, a few years later while waiting for Brooks, something terrible happens and her world is turned completely upside down.
“The world keeps spinning because your heartbeats exist.”
The once vibrant, carefree, outgoing Maggie May has lost herself and her voice since the events of that night. There’s no one in her family that really knows how to help her–they do their best by surrounding her with as much love and strength in hopes she’ll come back to them.
“I hadn’t known you could hear someone’s voice so clearly in the silent moments.”
I absolutely loved Maggie and Brooks–both individually and together. Brooks becomes her anchor. She shares her love of books with him, and he shares his music with her. Their love story was everything but easy–but you get to witness its growth and the unconditional love between them.
“With each touch, I fell more for his spirit. With each kiss, I tasted a part of his soul.
In my mind, I whispered back to him, time and time again. With every tear and every heartbeat, I spoke to him. So quiet, yet so loud.”
I don’t think I’ve ever connected with a story like I did this one. I could relate to Maggie so much! Not necessarily in the sense of the things she went through, but growing up I was always a pretty quiet person, and that was something people didn’t really understand or was easily made into a joke.
The Silent Waters was a story that I absolutely loved–one I still think about months after I’ve read. So, thank you Brittainy C. Cherry for creating this beautiful story, and these incredible characters. The Silent Waters is definitely one of my top favorite reads!
