They say love and hate are the same feelings experienced under different circumstances, and it’s true.
The man who comes to me in my dreams also haunts me in my nightmares.
He is a brilliant lawyer.
A skilled criminal.
A beautiful liar.
A bully and a savior, a monster and a lover.
Ten years ago, he made me run away from the small town where we lived. Now, he came for me in New York, and he isn’t leaving until he takes me with him.
She is a starving artist.
Pretty and evasive like cherry blossom.
Ten years ago, she barged into my life unannounced and turned everything upside down.
She paid the price.
Emilia LeBlanc is completely off-limits, my best friend’s ex-girlfriend. The woman who knows my darkest secret, and the daughter of the cheap Help we hired to take care of our estate.
That should deter me from chasing her, but it doesn’t.
So she hates me. Big fucking deal.
She better get used to me.
Rating: 5 “Cherry Blossom” Stars!
It’s official, L.J. Shen is the queen when it comes to a-hole alphas! I didn’t think I could love one any more than Troy Brennan from Sparrow, but she did it with Vicious. This book is EVERYTHING. Completely blown away. I devoured it, and hated when it ended.
“My Grandma once told me that love and hate are the same feelings experienced under different circumstances.
I didn’t believe her until I met Baron Spencer and he became my nightmare.”
After her parents are employed by the Spencer’s, Emilia LeBlanc moves to their estate during her senior year of high school. Vicious takes an instant dislike to Emilia after he finds her lurking outside the library in the mansion. He begins referring to her as the “Help,” and does everything in his power to make her life a nightmare—and things only escalate once jealousy and lust come into play.
“It was too bad that my hate for him was dipped in a thin shell of something that felt like love. But I promised myself I’d crack it, break it, and unleash pure hatred in its place before he got to me.”
Baron Spencer, aka Vicious, is exactly that…Vicious. He took everything I love to hate in a male character and surpassed it. He had secrets. He was cruel, ruthless, and a bully. However, he was also a tortured soul I couldn’t help but to love.
“I was still the servants’ daughter who wanted him to love her or leave her alone, just as long as he put her out of her misery.”
Emilia was the exact opposite of Vicious. She was sweet, carefree, and always put her family first. And after everything she’d been through, she was still a strong woman with a backbone–an attribute I found refreshing in a heroine.
“I loved her when I hated her.
And I loved her when I didn’t want anything to do with her.
I was so crazy about her, the lines had blurred together.
Feelings were mixed, emotions twisted together.”
Told both in the past and present, you learn everything you need to know about Vicious and Emilia. You learn why these two hate each other, but have this strong craving to be together at the same time.
“I just want you as you are. Broken. Misunderstood. Jerk. I want the real version, the dark version, the one who made me the saddest I’ve ever been in my life, but also the happiest.”
If you’re a fan of love/hate relationships, then you need Vicious in your life! A captivating, addictive read with lessons about the fine line between love and hate, and a beautifully broken character who will stick with you long after you finish.
